All I want for Christmas is...

Alexia and Kaitlyn Beckman snuggle up to the “big red guy” after the annual Hayesville Christmas parade sponsored by the Clay County Progress. Children lined up at the gazebo for a visit with Santa and to tell him exactly what they wanted for Christmas. Santa made his grand entrance at the end of parade. Despite the near freezing temperatures, the square was lined with spectators both young and old getting in the holiday spirit.  The Progress expresses appreciation to all who helped with the parade including announcers Clay Logan and Wanda Cotton.

Hinton’s affordable housing project breaking new ground

If home is where the heart is, Wesley Meadows has to be home sweet home.  Construction is ready to begin on another six homes at this Hinton Rural Life Center project that promotes homeownership.

Class wins recycled snowman contest

Second grade students in Susie Kinkead’s class at Hayesville Elementary School won first place in the recycled snowman contest. The competition was set up as a project for the teachers and students to complete together as a way to get students involved in recycling, especially during the holiday season.  They had to use recycled goods. No new items could be used to make the snowman.

Now’s the time to get involved

We are well into December now: fires are roaring regularly in fireplaces, some snow has sprinkled over the scenery and Christmas trees are showing up everywhere, from being bundled on top minivans to peeking out of windows with sparkling lights and ornaments.
