Commissioners vote for new sales tax referendum

The Clay County Board of Commissioners voted unanimously Thursday to hold a special election for an advisory referendum on whether to levy a quarter-percent local option sales and use tax. 
 The board voted to put the matter before the public on Tuesday, May 8, primary election day. The only member of the public speaking against such an action was Brasstown resident George Dinsmore.  “It seems that not long ago we voted on a quarter cent sales tax,” Dinsmore said, referring to the proposed sales tax increase turned down by Clay County voters in November 2016."
