County welcomes new agricultural agent
There’s a new face at the North Carolina Cooperative Extension Office in Clay County. On March 1, Craig Wininger began his role of agricultural agent and says he is eager to meet more of the people of Clay County.
Wininger hails from the small town of Surgoinsville, Tenn. “We have one red light in my town and I went to high school in the next town over, Church Hill,” he said. “Just like here, Volunteer High School is the only high school in the county.”
His family raised beef cattle and sheep at their northeastern Tennessee farm. “My family runs a club lamb operation with 70 head of sheep. We sell lambs for kids to compete at state and national levels. I grew up showing cattle and judging shows,” he said shyly.
