Septic application fees rise

Commissioners also welcome members of Smoky Mountain Medical team
Clay County Commissioners voted to increase the fees for permits for septic applications. They also gave a standing ovation to team members of the medical mission to Clay County at the Thursday, Aug. 3 meeting.
A half dozen representatives from the medical team, in military fatigues, attended the first part of the evening’s regular commission meeting. Clay County Health Dept. Director Janice Patterson introduced them. She said by Thursday the medical mission already had provided $75,000 worth of free medical and dental care to local citizens.
Lt. Col. Gary Easterly told the commissioners more than 250 military personnel from the U.S. Army,  Air National Guard fighter and attack wings, Navy, Office of the Secretary of Defense and other branches were working in partnership with communities to provide services for the medical mission — including free medical, dental, optical services and veterinary care.
