Council hears about momentum on square
We’re moving right along.” — Mayor Harry Baughn
Momentum is building across downtown Hayesville, thanks to a generous commitment from a private citizen to boost renovation efforts at the historic courthouse and a Community Development Block Grant now in process to help refurbish two downtown buildings.
A public hearing on the CBDG building reuse grant will be held 4:30-5:30 p.m. Monday, Feb. 27 at town hall. The purpose of the hearing will be to answer questions from the public on specifics of the grant and how it will be used.
The target of the grant: two vacant downtown buildings. One is the former downtown butcher shop and the other is an old auto parts building.
“Plans for the old butcher shop are really nice,” Mayor Harry Baughn told the council at its monthly meeting Monday evening. “And I’ve heard there’s a contract on the old Drake Building.”
