Jackets outscore opponents 24-2
After a stint of non-conference games, the Hayesville Yellow Jackets returned to the Smoky Mountain Conference to face two familiar opponents. First, Hayesville traveled to Andrews where they out scored the Wildcats by a final of 14-2. The Jackets then successfully defended their home field over Cherokee with a 10-0 score.
Scoring started early for and came often for Hayesville in Andrews.
By the end of the second inning, the Jackets were up 8-0 and continued to add to that score. A total of 9 Hayesville batters combined for 16 hits including Brian Voight who went 5-5 with a home run and 3 RBI’s. Braxton Cox also went yard with one of his three hits and totaled 3 RBI’s.
Tyler Leek got the start on the mound for Hayesville going six innings, allowing 0 earned runs on two hits and striking out 10. Freshman Lucas Barolet came on in relief and gave up only one hit before closing out the game and solidifying the 14-2 win for the Yellow Jackets.
