Ink runs deep

On April Fool’s Day, I’m going to be a full-fledged senior citizen. Yep, I’ll be 55 and I’ll finally qualify for 10 cents off my morning coffee.
I guess it’s a sign of age, but it really does seem like yesterday that I walked into the Clay County Progress office to subscribe to the newspaper.
The office was across the street where Sonja Silver’s Realty is and three people worked there: Lonnie Britt was publisher, Louise Clements was editor and Faith Hall was in advertising.
The year was 1986 and I was 24 years old. I had moved here from Virginia Beach where I lived a short time and briefly worked at the Virginian-Pilot newspaper. I guess a drop or two of ink must have gotten in my blood while I was there.
I paid the $7 or so for a yearly subscription to the Progress and casually asked if they had any openings.
