I would like to thank the citizens of Clay County for your support and trust these past eight years for me as sheriff and for your Clay County Sheriff’s Office.
During this time I have strived under a strict budget to provide the many services and duties required of the department.
We have attacked the drug problem through education, enforcement and rehabilitation.
More than 100 citizens have graduated from the Sheriff’s Citizen Academy and the department now has a volunteer auxiliary that helps our manpower shortage assist with community events and raises money for much needed equipment.
The detention center provides an inmate work crew that saves the county thousands of dollars a year and raises thousands of dollars in inmate boarding fees from other agencies.
We have an active crime prevention program including eight active neighborhood watches. Through a grant program, we acquired two drug dogs that have assisted in several arrests. A deputy is assigned to animal control.
In addition, a firing range was established from donations and volunteers at no cost to the county. A state-required 911 back up center was established through North Carolina government funds. The evidence room is now strictly controlled and professionally organized.
Community outreach programs include the Sheriff’s Christmas Dinner and Shop With a Hero.
Due to unexpected health issues, it is with sadness that I have made the decision not to seek re-election.
I thank God to have had the opportunity to serve as your sheriff. With his help and guidance much has been accomplished.
In my 47 years of law enforcement, my time as sheriff of Clay County has been my most enjoyable years.
Vic Davis, Sheriff, Clay County
