Jackets find success in conference

Smoky Mountain Conference wrestlers gathered at Swain County High School to see who could endure the battle to become SMC champion. In wrestling, All Conference awards are not voted on, but are earned by going head-to-head on the mat.
Hayesville Freshman Kevin Cook battled his way through the 106 pound brackets to face Cherokee’s sophomore Jacob Norton. Cook quickly racked up 8 points with his explosive take downs to Norton’s 2 as the first period wound down. In the second period Cook had quickly racked up 7 more points when Norton caught Cook in a pinning combination, but the clock expired just before the pin.
