Donald Lee Morris
Donald Lee Morris, 54, of Blairsville Ga., passed away on Aug. 28, 2018.
He was a devoted Registered Nurse at Union General Hospital, a compassionate companion to “his love,” Suzanne L Kingsley, of Blairsville, and a remarkable father and grandfather to his 10 children and six grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his father, Dennis Lee Morris; and son, Jabez Morris.
Donald known as “daddy” by his children, Lance, 32; Mary, 27, and spouse Jeremiah Barnard, 32; Elijah, 25, and spouse, Larissa, 23; Ellie, 23, Shay, 22, Gabe, 20, Lulu, 17, Micheal, 12, Isaac, 10, and Angelica, 9. He was called “Papaw” or “Grandpaw Georgia” by his grandchildren, Abby, 10, Jake, 8, Hyleigh, 2, and Erma Morris, 1, Saige, 2, and Finnley Barnard, 6 months-old. He was also very loved and highly respected by his co-workers which often referred to him as “Big Don” or “Daddy Don.”
He was a man of many talents and hobbies which include wood working, blacksmithing, stained glass, grilling and building guns. He was a skilled marksman and enjoyed all shooting sports. He was an active member of the Clay Lodge #301 A.F. & A.M. He was well known for what he called the “Morris motto” of “make it happen” which was his go-to phrase when hearing excuses from others or explaining how to accomplish difficult tasks.
In his honor, a viewing was held from 6-8 p.m. at Mountain View Funeral Home in Blairsville on Friday, Aug. 31. Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 1 at Mountain View Funeral Home officiated by Don’s best friend Roger Powell. A Masonic last rite was given by Clay Lodge #301 A.F. & A.M., of Hayesville, at the Lighthouse Cemetery, 772 John Smith Road East, Blairsville, Ga. 30512.
A celebration of life/party was held at Donald’s residence following the graveside services.
