Chesley Daniel ‘Dan’ Giles
Chesley Daniel “Dan” Giles, 78, of Charlotte, passed away on Tuesday, Jan. 8, 2019. He was born in Oconee County, S.C. Dan attended Young Harris College, where he met his wife. He later graduated from Atlanta Law School. He enjoyed his work in management of industrial equipment repair and retired as plant manager. As a member of Christ United Methodist Church, Charlotte, he served in many capacities, including working with their food pantry, participating with mission building teams and serving with Room in the Inn. He enjoyed spending time gardening, tinkering with his HAM radio and watching Star Trek.
Dan was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and son. His greatest joy was his family.
He was the son of Imogene King Giles of Stanley, N.C. and the late Chesley Daniel Giles Sr.
Surviving, in addition to his mother, are his wife of 56 years, Judith Ann Smart Giles; his daughter, Wendi Giles Byas and husband, Karl and his two grandchildren, Kelly and Owen Byas, whom he loved dearly.
A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 19 at Ledford’s Chapel United Methodist Church Cemetery with the Rev. Jim Humphries officiating.
