Donald Roger Mull

Donald Roger Mull, 71, passed away Feb. 5, 2017, after an extended illness.
He was born in Hayesville on Oct. 6, 1945 and always loved the mountains. He was married to Darlene Wood Mull for 49 years. She was the love of his life.
He graduated from Hayesville High School and served in the United States Army from 1966-1968 as a paratrooper and served two tours in Vietnam with the 101st and 82nd Airborne. After working for Gulf Oil for a couple of years, he became an independent business man in the oil and gas industry in Atlanta and Buford, Ga. During this time, he and his wife Darlene also owned the Mulls Inn in Hiawassee and it was operated by his mother-in-law, Cordie Wood, until her death.
Don was kind hearted, had a great spirit and a gift for making others laugh. He loved life and his beloved mountain heritage. He was an avid sports fan, especially football. He was a devoted husband and father and will be missed by all.
He was the son of the late Joe and Martha Mull. He was also preceded in death by his beloved son, Jason Donald Mull; two brothers, John and Bill Mull; and his mother-in-law, Cordie Wood.
Surviving in addition to his wife are his brothers, James Mull and wife, Brenda, of Woodstock, Ga. and David Mull and wife, Donna, of Lexington, Ga; sisters, Jane Rowland and Eddie Lee Garrett, both of Hayesville, Bennie Yaus and husband, Bill, and Mary Bennett and husband, Stony, all of Charlotte, N.C., Eva Wike and husband, Jim, of Oak Ridge, Tenn. and Sue Laminack, of La Grange, Ga.; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 8 in the chapel of Ivie Funeral Home, Hayesville with Revs. Jackie Sellers, Chris Rumfelt and Chaplain Carl Maxwell officiating. Interment will be in the Hayesville Baptist/Presbyterian Cemetery with military grave side rites conducted by the Hayesville VFW Post 6812, American Legion Post 532, Murphy DAV Chapter 73 and American Legion Post 96.
Pallbearers will be Ron Mull, Russell Moody, Gregory Wood, Will Thurman, Bruce Davenport and Danny Taylor.
The family will receive friends from 1-2:45 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 8 at the Ivie Funeral Home, Hayesville prior to the services.
