He was born July 5, 1930 in Haywood County, N.C. to the late Ray and Mallie Wooten Anderson. Lane grew up in Brasstown. After graduating from Hayesville High School he served two years in the Army. In the Army he served as a mechanic in the Motor Pool during the Korean Conflict Era stationed at Fort Bragg, N.C., which began his career in automotive repair.
In 1953 he came to Atlanta where he met the love of his life, Mary Ann Mayo. They were married June 5, 1953 and he began working at General Motors Assembly Plant in Doraville. After 30 years he retired from GM and began working with HECAT. During and after his working career he always had an automotive repair shop at his home. Growing up in the mountains of North Carolina gave him the love of the outdoors. Andy’s greatest pleasures was sitting by the campfire with his deer hunting club members and friends. He was always an avid reader but when his eye site began failing, he began listening to talking books provided by the Georgia Libraries for Accessible Statewide Services.
