Herman Calvin Ford
Herman Calvin Ford, 80, of Young Harris, Ga., passed away peacefully on Saturday, Sept. 1, 2018 in the Union General Hospital with his loving family by his side following an extended illness. Mr. Ford was born on Aug. 13, 1938 in Swannanoa, N.C. He was the son of the late Wayne Ford and the late Eunia Mae Beach Ford. Herman was raised in Warne and lived there for many years. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy serving more than 23 years of service to his country. He was on one of the first Navy Seal Teams. Herman loved guns, hunting, fishing and all kinds of animals. He was a very hard worker and worked hard all of his life. He was a loving husband, father, brother and grandfather. Herman attended Mount Pisgah Baptist Church and Unity Church of the Mountains.
Surviving Mr. Ford are his loving wife, Brigitte Taylor, of Young Harris, two sons and one daughter in law, Tony and Lacie Ford, of Hiawassee, Kent Ford, of Blairsville, one stepdaughter, Catherine Taylor, of Atlanta, sister, Dorothy Roberts, of Acworth, Ga. and five grandchildren. Many other relatives and friends also survive.
He was predeceased by a daughter, Tina Garrett.
At Herman’s request no services are planned. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations may be made to the U.S.O. or St. Jude Children’s Hospital in Herman’s memory.
