Jack Harmon Parker
Jack Harmon Parker, 89, of Hayesville, passed away Tuesday, Sept. 26, 2017 in a Gainesville, Ga. hospital. He was a native and lifetime resident of Clay County. He had served in the United States Army during World War II. Jack had owned and operated a farm in the Sweetwater Community throughout his life. Jack worked as the county forest ranger and also owned and operated Lay Manufacturing Company, a manufacturer of broom fiber and lumber. He was also the county foreman for Clay County Department of Transportation. Jack graduated from Nashville Technical College, which led to his certification as a journeyman pipefitter. He attended Sweetwater Methodist Church.
He was the son of the late Harley Robert and Dorothy Mae Rogers Parker. He was preceded in death by a grandson, Charles Lucas Parker; and a sister, Lucille Smith.
Surviving are his wife of 65 years, Louise Cloer Parker; a daughter, Yvonne Robinson and husband, Jeff, of Franklin, N.C.; a son, Wallace Parker and wife, Vicki, of Murphy; a sister, Janice Padgett and husband, Jim, of Hayesville; four grandchildren, Jessica Hughes and husband, Gage, Katie Dockery and husband, Willie, and Paige and Case Robinson; five great-grandchildren, Chance, Parker and Jase Hughes, and Sawyer and Colson Dockery; several nieces and nephews; and a special caregiver, Jesse Clifton.
Funeral services were held at 7 p.m. Friday, Sept. 29 in the chapel of Ivie Funeral Home, Hayesville with Rev. Wayne Matheson officiating. The interment was held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 30 in Union Hill Cemetery with military graveside rites conducted by the Hayesville VFW Post 6812, American Legion Post 532, Murphy DAV Chapter 73 and American Legion Post 96. Pallbearers were Jeff and Case Robinson, Stanley Cloer, Jim Padgett, Willie Dockery and Gage Hughes. Honorary pallbearer was Bruce Davenport.
The family received friends from 5-6:45 p.m. Friday at the Ivie Funeral Home, Hayesville prior to the services.
