John Raymond Bigger
John Raymond Bigger, 78, died Monday, April 22 in a Chattanooga hospital of complications of Pulmonary Fibrosis.
He was born on July 13, 1940 in Reedley, Calif.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Louis Edward Bigger and Virginia Katherine Winder, and a brother, James Edward Bigger.
He had a masters degree and taught school for 38 years in California and during that time was teacher of the year for 12 years. In 1999 he was planning for retirement and traveled around the south to find a place that could be just exactly what he wanted for the next chapter in his life. He found his spot on Mill Creek Farm in Warne. At retirement in 2000 he moved from California to his small farm. His father also came with him and loved the years he spent until his passing in 2005. Louis became known as Woody for all the work on taking down old barns on the property.
In addition to his teaching career, John had many other work related interests through the years, he continued raising cattle and enjoyed all aspects of country living more than anything.
He sold his beloved farm in 2014 and moved to the Chattanooga area, but missed all the wonderful friends and places that he had enjoyed during the years in Warne and would come back to visit as often as possible.
He will be greatly missed by his family.
John is survived by his wife, Joyce. He was a loving father of four children, John, Brett, Chad and Kelli, all of California; four step children, Donna, Michael, Ronnie and Jeff, of Tennessee; 10 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
He is being cremated and interment will be in Madera, Calif.
