Lawrence Neil Stroud
Mr. Lawrence Neil Stroud, of Hayesville, passed away on Jan. 6, 2019 at the Clay County Care Center following an extended illness. He was a native and lifelong resident of Clay County and attended Shiloh Baptist where he served as a deacon for more than 65 years. He was also a member of the Stephens Lodge #414 F&AM; as well as being previously married for 60 years
Mr. Stroud was born on Aug. 23, 1926 in Hayesville to the late Alfred Carter Stroud and Eva Bell Ledford. He was preceded in death by his wife in 2005, Mamie Lands; a son, Floyd Lands; sisters, Maude Allison, Lilli Allison, Patricia Plott and Hazel Stroud; brothers, Will, Claude and Robert Stroud and Floyd Lands.
Mr. Stroud is survived by his children, Johnny and Amanda Stroud, of Young Harris, Ga.; Betty Shook, of Young Harris, and Lloyd and JoAnn Lands, of Hayesville; sister-in-law, Kathleen Stroud, of Hayesville, and brother-in-law, Ronnie Plott. Many nieces, nephews, as well as grandchildren also survive.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 9 at Shiloh Baptist Church with Rev Clark Moss and Rev. John Talley officiating. Special music was presented by the Hughes family. The following gentleman served as pallbearers: Ricky and Ray Plott, Scott Lands, Paydon Shook, Rodney Stroud and Tony Beasley. The following gentleman served as honorary pallbearers: Donald Cheeks, Donald and Willis Allison, Robert Garrett, Bill Norton and Mike McClure. Interment followed in Shiloh Baptist Church cemetery.
The family met with friends from 6-9 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 8 at Shiloh Baptist Church. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to help defray expenses.
