Leo Michael Goergen
Mr. Leo Michael Goergen, 92, of Blairsville, Ga., passed away peacefully on Monday, Aug. 5, 2019 in the Union General Hospital following a brief battle with cancer. Mr. Goergen was born on July 6, 1927 in Buffalo, N.Y., the son of the late John J. Goergen and the late Lucille M. Koch Goergen. Leo was a loving father, brother, uncle, grand- father, great-grandfather and great-great grandfather. He was a talented painter. He was preceded in death by his wife, Stephany Zubrzycki Goergen in 2006, his siblings, John, Catherine, Elizabeth, Raymond, Paul (his twin), Rita and Frances. Leo was a devout Christian of the Catholic Faith and was a member of St. William Catholic Church in Murphy, N.C.
Surviving Mr. Goergen are his children and their spouses, David and XianLan Goergen, of Largo, Fla., Ken- neth and Helene Goergen, of Seminole, Fla., Stephen Go- ergen, of Blairsville, Thomas and Lavada Goergen, of Box Elder, S.D., Barbara Goer- gen, of Blairsville, Cindy and Bob Spaulding, of Blairsville, one brother Rev. David Go- ergen, eight grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, six great-great- grandchildren, several nieces, nephews, many other relatives and friends also survive.
Memorial services were held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 13 at the Mountain View Funeral Home Chapel in Blairsville with Deacon Carl Hubbell officiating followed by aMass at1p.m.at the St. William Catholic Church in Murphy with Father Alejandro Ayala officiating. The family met with friends following the services. Interment followed in the St. William’s Columbarium where he will rest next to his beloved wife Stephany.
