Margaret Ruth Gibson
Margaret Ruth Gibson, 91, of Hayesville, passed away Saturday, May 13, 2017 in a Clay County care facility. She was a native of Clay County, but had lived most of her life in Springfield, Mass. before moving back to Clay County in 1976. She worked for Springfield Armory as a machinist and was a member of the Hayesville First United Methodist Church. Ruth enjoyed wood carving and gardening.
She was the daughter of the late Bayse and Maggie Waldroup McClure and the wife of the late Robert Burns Gibson, who died Dec. 13, 1983. She was also preceded in death by a son, James Gibson and a step-son, David Gibson.
Surviving are her daughter-in-law, Janet Fuller and husband, Dave, of Hayesville; a step-son, Robert B. “Bobby” Gibson and wife, Joy, of Hampton, Va.; four step-grandchildren and several step-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, May 17 in the chapel of Ivie Funeral Home, Hayesville with the Rev. Kirk Hatherly officiating. The interment was in Oak Forest United Methodist Church Cemetery. Pallbearers were Clea Miller, Ed and Rick Cantrell, Buddy Lowe, Michael McClure and Tim Lamontagne.
The family received friends from 6-8 p.m. Tuesday evening at the Ivie Funeral Home, Hayesville.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made in memory of Margaret Ruth Gibson to the Hayesville First United Methodist Church, PO Box 85, Hayesville, NC 28904.
