Minnie Hampton Thomas Couch
Minnie Hampton Thomas Couch, 105, of Brasstown, passed away Tuesday, March 1, 2016 in a Murphy care facility. She was a native and lifetime resident of Clay County.
Minnie was a homemaker and worked as a registrar for the Clay County Bureau of Vital Statistics. She also listed taxes for Clay County and was an election official in Clay County for 40 years. Minnie was a member of the Hickory Stand United Methodist Church for 94 years, where she served as a trustee and in other offices. She loved cooking for her family and friends.
She was the daughter of the late Tom and Adora Coe Hampton and was the wife of the late Frank Thomas, who died in 1934 and Delbert L. Couch, who died Sept. 12, 1972. She was also preceded in death by two sisters, Hattie Hyatt and Carrie Moore and six brothers, Horace, Charlie, Fred, Roy, Frank and Willard Hampton.
Surviving are a daughter, Charlene Thomas; a son, Arnold Couch, both of Brasstown; and three nieces and several great-nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Friday, March 4, in the Hickory Stand United Methodist Church with the Rev. Bryan Wilson officiating. The interment was in the church cemetery. Pallbearers were Keith Penland, David, David Jr. and Bass Hyatt, Billy Payne and Jeff Martin.
The family received friends from 6-8 p.m. Thursday at the Ivie Funeral Home, Murphy where the body will be until placed in the church 30 minutes prior to the services.
