Sarah Lugene ‘Maw’ Davenport
Sarah Lugene "Maw" Davenport, 93, of Hayesville, passed away Sunday, March 26, 2017 at her residence.
She was a native and lifelong resident of Clay County. Sarah was the daughter of the late Luther Franklin and Lizzy McClure Ledford. She was a homemaker. Maw enjoyed gardening, canning, sewing, making crafts from clothes and woodworking. She loved taking care of her family. “Maw” was a member of the Shooting Creek Baptist Church.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Fred Wilson Davenport, who passed away in 1982; and her sisters and their husbands, Zelpha May Ledford Davenport and husband, Verlin, Pauline Ledford and husband, Rondall, Astilee Ledford and Opal Ledford Burrell and husband, Junior.
She is survived by two sons, Ernest Davenport, of Hayesville, and Ervin Davenport and wife, Joan, of Hiawassee; one daughter, Margaret Bradley and husband, Fletcher, of Hayesville; grandchildren, Justin Davenport and wife, Jessica, and their children, Kayla, Alyssa and Derrick Davenport; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, March 28 at the Townson-Rose Funeral Home Chapel, of Hayesville. Pastor Donald Davenport officiated. Music was provided by Brandon Davenport. Burial was in the Mission Hill Baptist Church Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Daniel, Justin, Derrick, Ernie, Ervin and David Davenport and Fletcher Bradley. Honorary pallbearer was Coy Ledford.
The family received friends from 6-8 p.m. Monday, March 27 at the Townson-Rose Funeral Home Chapel, of Hayesville.
