Willa Mae Long

Willa Mae Long, 82, of Hayesville, passed away Sunday, Sept. 25, 2022 surrounded by family.

Willa Mae, known primarily as mama, nanny and Willie spent 69 years of her life focused on being a wife, mother and grandmother. She taught her children and grandchildren the meaning of unconditional love each day and through that love she will live on forever. She will be missed immensely, but her family is consumed with joy knowing that the Bible tells us to be absent from the body means you are present with the Lord. If only we could have been there to see her face when she walked through the pearly gates and saw Dale standing there waiting on her arrival.

Willie was born to the late Avery and Maggie Matheson Hall on Jan. 1, 1940, in Hayesville.

Willie was preceded in death by her husband of 66 years, Dale; her siblings, Ruth Volluz, Francis Stout, Mary Jo Swain, Clay Hall and Louise Canup and her daughter-in-law, Linda Long.

Willie is survived by the following: Roger (Peggy) Long, Arlene (Mike) Hall and Richard (Darlene) Long; six grandchildren, Phillip (Vanity) Hall, Kelly (Jamie) Davis, Connie (Lamar) Schandera, Karla (Roger) Miller, Jennifer (Scott) Baugh and Joseph (Rosa) Potts; 19 great-grandchildren, Zakaree Evans, Kayla Schandera, Taylor Hall, Joshua VanLandingham, Trey Hall, Jay Baugh, Maggie Schandera, Trae Miller, Levi Miller, Cody Baugh, Brady Hall, Riley Baugh, Tyler Hilton, Andrew Miller, Delaney Hilton, Wayne Davis, Olivia Potts, Hailey Ratliff and Gabby Ratliff; three great-great-grandchildren, Karsen Hester, Adalynn Ratliff  and Kaliana Sherman and numerous nephews and nieces.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, Oct. 7 at Shiloh Baptist Church. Pastor Clark Moss will officiate.
