Tammy Lynn Cheeks, 49, of Hayesville, was called home to be with her Lord and Savior Saturday, Nov. 19, 2022. She was a native and lifetime resident of Clay County. Tammy had worked as a Certified Nursing Assistant for Mountain Home Nursing for several years.

Dr. Jerry Smith

Dr. Jerry L. Smith, 82, of Hayesville and LaBelle, Fla., passed away Saturday, Nov. 19, 2022 at his residence in Hayesville. Jerry was born in Fredonia, N.Y.

Josephine ‘Jo’ Chastain Jones

Josephine “Jo” Chastain Jones, 87, of Cleveland, Ga., passed away on Thursday, Nov. 17, 2022. Mrs. Jones was born on Dec. 4, 1934 to the late Sherman and Louise Ledford Chastain. She was a homemaker and mother. She moved to White County in 1970 from Atlanta, Ga.

Robert 'Bob' Patterson Jr.

Robert "Bob" Patterson Jr., 79, passed away Wednesday, Nov. 9, 2022. He was the son of the late Robert Patterson, Sr. and Maybell Ledford Patterson. He had worked for many years with Clay County Transfer Station and he was co-owner/operator, Patterson Bait and Tackle. Bob was a friend to everyone.

John Winston Adkins

John Winston Adkins, 79, of Hayesville, passed away Thursday, Nov. 10, 2022 at his residence surrounded by family, after a long battle with prostate cancer. He was born on Jan. 20, 1943 to the late Robert M. and Laura Black Adkins. He grew up in Murphy, N.C.

Janet Kitchens Powell

Janet Kitchens Powell, 87, of Hayesville, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Wednesday, Nov. 9, 2022. She was a native of Clay County where she had lived for most of her life.

Charles ‘Chuck’ O. Van Gorder III

Charles “Chuck” O. Van Gorder III, 76, of Brasstown, N.C., passed away peacefully on the morning of Sunday, Oct. 30, 2022. Chuck was born on Jan. 29, 1946 in Hackensack, N.J. He was the son of the late Dr. Charles O. Van Gorder and Helen Lockerby Van Gorder. He grew up in Andrews, N.C.

Archie L. Mixon

Archie Leon Mixon, 74, passed away peacefully in his sleep on Monday, Oct. 24, 2022 at Skyland Care Center. A native of Kentwood, La., he was a son of the late Gurley Hamilton and Gertrude Brown Mixon.

Betty Frances Teems

Betty Frances Teems, 83, of Young Harris, Ga., passed away Monday, Nov. 7, 2022. She was a native of Clay County and the daughter of the late William "Hub" and Mary Mills Ivester. Betty enjoyed crocheting, gardening, flowers, quilting and made musical instruments.

Ronald ‘Ronnie’ Edwin Foster

Ronald "Ronnie" Edwin Foster, 62, of Hayesville, passed away Thursday, Oct. 27, 2022. He was born in Hiawassee, Ga. to the late Robert and Kay Carroll Foster. Ronnie was an inspector.
