Community support unsurpassed during recent tragedy
On Monday, May 20 our school suffered a most devastating loss. One of our beloved seniors, Steven Plummer, was taken from us tragically. Words cannot express the comfort and peace we as members of Hayesville High School experienced during this difficult time.
Our hearts are overwhelmed by the outpouring of love and support from the Clay County community as well as the surrounding communities. Remembrances came from Towns County High School, Murphy High School, Andrews High School, Robbinsville High School, Graham County Board of Education, Franklin High School and Cherokee Central Schools.
Thank you to the Hinton Center for opening their facilities to our school family in the immediate aftermath.
As the days progressed we were comforted by the numerous counselors and clergy who supported our students and staff. There were many calls from school leaders across western North Carolina and north Georgia and various student organizations held special tributes throughout the region. All the calls, prayers, cards, flowers, plants and food donated to the school during this most difficult week was certainly an encouragement. Thank you to Ingles, Subway, Carlotta’s, Hawg Wild, Dunkin Donuts, McDonalds, Rib Country and Chick-Fil-A of Blairsville. A special thank you to all the community members who donated. Your love and kindness will long be remembered.
