Look for the true meaning of great success
This past week I had the honor of attending the Hayesville Middle School eighth grade promotion exercises. Over the past two years I’ve had the privilege of being one of their substitute teachers. I’ve been able to see firsthand each of the 110 students grow in knowledge and abilities to a point where they are more than ready to take high school head-on. I’m sure each of the exceptional young people will be just as successful as they have been in middle school. Remember success is determined not by others, but by the individual and the path they chose.
I sincerely believe I’ve gained more from them, than I’ve been able to give back. They have restored my hope for the future of this great country of ours. Each member of the Class of 2023 has the ability to move into whatever field they choose and be effective. Some will go to college to improve their intellectual skill, some will enter the trades to improve their practical skill and some may enter the military to find their place. We have learned and laughed together. I’ve corrected when necessary, but praised when deserved.
However, having spent two years with them, I’ve come to understand why some species eat their young.
I hope that from time to time over the next four years I’ll have the opportunity to continue to see them grow and develop into even more than they are now. If they dream big, big things will come their way. Each one of them is capable of more than they can image.
Lastly, always remember the problem with aspirin.
