Hard hits, disqualifications shake things up
It was a night mixed with fierce action, post-race drama and bone jarring crashes at Tri County Racetrack in Brasstown on Friday. Dirt track fans from the region filed in to watch race No. 2 of the season. While it was the second event for the track in 2017, it was the first night points would be awarded to the drivers in their quest for a track championship. As the sun set on a beautiful evening, the Street Stock division rolled out for the first feature of the night.
Jim Twiggs found himself on the pole for the race with Marlin Gunter on his outside. The two had tangled in the season opener while battling for the lead so fans were interested to see how lap one would go. The anticipated drama never panned out as Twiggs got a great start and launched ahead of the field. Gunter settled into second place as he pursued the leader. His chase would be in vain, however, as Twiggs stretched his lead two 3/4th’s of a lap.
