Jones named Peach Belt Player of the Week
Young Harris College men's basketball player Justin Jones has been named the Floor Action Peach Belt Conference Player of the Week ending Jan. 6.
Jones is the second Mountain Lion to earn the weekly honor this season asAlphonso Willis was recognized last month. It's the first time in program history that two Young Harris players have been honored by the league in the same season.
Jones averaged 31.0 points per game in two outings last week for the Mountain Lions. The junior guard from Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, scored a career-high 37 in a 128-121 loss at Lander University; a game that set PBC records for scoring and three-pointers made. He followed that with 25 points in a 120-119 win at Francis Marion University that saw Young Harris snap its 13-game PBC road losing streak.
Jones shot 54.1 percent (20-of-37) from the field and 53.8 percent from three-point range (14-of-26), hitting seven three-pointers in each contest. As a team, the Mountain Lions set a school record (NCAA era) as well as the PBC record for threes made in a conference game with 24 against Lander. He added 3.5 rebounds, 3.0 steals and 1.5 assists per game. Jones leads the league in three-pointers made (39) and is third in scoring (18.2).
Young Harris (5-7 overall, 3-3 Peach Belt) returns to action Wednesday (Jan. 9) as they host Clayton State University in a 7:30 p.m. PBC contest at the YHC Basketball Arena.
