HMS softball team outscores opponents 44-9

The Hayesville Middle School Lady Yellow Jackets had an impressive week as they put up a total of 44 runs in two games. Win number one for the week came when Hayesville routed Cherokee by a final of 23-0.
The hits kept on coming for the Lady Jackets against Hiwassee Dam. Hayesville again claimed the win with the final score of 21-9.
After the team used the game against Cherokee as batting practice, fans were again treated to a high-scoring affair on Friday, March 18 as the Lady Jackets outscored the Lady Eagles 21-9 in six innings.
The teams combined for 34 hits, including nine extra base hits.
Six runs in the first three innings helped Hayesville blow out Hiwassee Dam. An RBI single by Jade Patterson, steals of home by Patterson and Kyliegh Whitney during the first inning, combined with an RBI double by Addison Rogers in the second inning, fueled the Yellow Jackets' offense early.
Maggie Thurmond racked up two RBIs on four hits for Hayesville. She doubled in the fifth inning and singled in the first, fifth and sixth innings.
The Lady Jackets easily handled Hiwassee Dam pitching as nine hitters combined for 17 hits, 12 RBIs and 18 runs scored.
Hayesville built upon its lead with nine runs in the fifth. A single by Thurmond ignited the offense. That was followed up by Madison Sanchez's single, scoring Rogers.
The sixth inning got off to a hot start when Annie Brooks singled, bringing home Kaylee Harris.
This team continues the winning tradition of Hayesville Middle School softball.
