Lady Jackets return with wins

The Christmas break is over and Smoky Mountain Conference basketball is back in full swing. Coming off a second place finish in the Battle of the States tournament, the Lady Yellow Jackets started off the 2017 part of the season on the road. On Tuesday, Jan. 3, Hayesville traveled to Robbinsville and held off the Lady Black Knights 29-27. The next gig on the Lady Jackets’ tour was moved up a day due to incoming winter weather. Hayesville traveled to Rosman on Thursday, Jan. 5. Once again the Lady Jackets came out on the winning end, 55-40 over the Lady Tigers.
Going into the match-up with Robbinsville, head coach Chad McClure knew his Lady Yellow Jackets had their work cut out for them. “Robbinsville has a high-powered offense that has put a lot of points on the board against a lot of people.” With that in mind, Hayesville’s defense stepped up in a big way. Freshman Jade Patterson and sophomore Hailea Rickett showed off their quick hands with three steals each while junior Kimonta Lloyd battled hard under the basket for nine rebounds.
