Yellow Jackets beat Blue Ridge, lose to Rabun Gap
The Hayesville Yellow Jacket varsity baseball team had to load up the bus and hit the road for both of their games last week.
The first stop on the road trip was Blue Ridge, N.C. where the Jackets got the win over the Bobcats by a final of 8-2. Stop No. 2 saw Hayesville lose 8-3 to Rabun Gap–Nacoochee in Rabun Gap.
Most had the Jackets favored to win their showdown with Blue Ridge on Tuesday, April 19 since Hayesville had won an earlier match-up. The game started out slow for the Jackets with Blue Ridge jumping out to a 1-0 lead in the first inning. That score remained until the fourth when the Yellow Jackets put 4 runs on the board. The rally swung the momentum Hayesville’s way and they added 4 more runs over the next two innings to solidify the 8-2 win.
Juniors Kyle Rhinehardt and Corey Brown almost mirrored each other at the plate with both players going 3-4 with two doubles each. One difference between the two in the stats was Rhinehardt’s 3 RBIs which was one better than Brown’s two.
Starting pitcher Tyler Leek went the entire seven innings allowing 2 runs on two hits, walking two and striking out a dozen Bobcat batters.
In a quick turn around, Hayesville headed to Rabun Gap on Wednesday, April 20 to face the Eagles. Rabun Gap–Nacoochee had picked up a win over the Yellow Jackets earlier in the season and Hayesville was looking for revenge.
