Initially he fought it, but Charles Jason Matheson waived extradition to Georgia on Tuesday and is being housed in the Towns County Detention Center without bond.

He also faces three felony charges for allegedly shooting his wife, Crystal Dawn Matheson, Jan. 26 at her place of employment in Hiawassee. In addition to the initial charge of aggravated assault, Matheson faces the felony offenses of aggravated stalking and criminal intent to commit a felony crime of murder.

On Tuesday, he appeared before Towns County Magistrate David Rogers who denied bond on all charges, according to Towns County Col. Gene Moss. The case has now been referred to Towns County Superior Court. Matheson, 41, had been incarcerated in the Clay County Jail the past week after Clay County Sheriff’s Officers apprehended him at his father’s home on Matheson Cove Road.

He was taken into custody without incident several hours after he allegedly used a handgun to shoot his wife multiple times. The couple are separated and Jason Matheson had a previous Domestic Violence Protection Order against him. Crystal Matheson is from Clay County and works at Chatuge Outpatient Rehabilitation Clinic in Hiawassee.

The shooting occurred at the clinic on Tuesday around 2:15 p.m., according to police reports. Crystal Matheson was transported to a north Georgia hospital where she underwent surgery and continues recovery. Matheson previously lived on Carter Cove Road in Clay County, but now has  a Young Harris, Ga. address.
