Donald Norman Gibson, 82, of Brasstown, N.C., formerly of Savannah Lakes Village in McCormick, S.C., passed away April 10, 2021 at his home with his family by his side. He was the son of the late Peter Donald Gibson and Mary Horvath Gibson.

Don was a graduate of Michigan Tech University. He had a long career in the metals industry as a metallurgical engineer. He was a member of Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church in Hayesville. Don was also a die-hard golfer and he had a great love for his children and grandson.

He is survived by his wife of more than 61 years, Judy Gibson; daughter, Dr. Kathy Waggoner; son, Dean Gibson, all of Brasstown; grandson, Dakota (Christina) Brock, of Cincinnati, Ohio; brothers, Peter (Nancy) Gibson, of ChicSago City, Minn., and Steven Gibson, of Ft. Myers, Fla.; nephews, Mark (Kim) Gibson, of Paynesville, Minn., Paul (Kim) Gibson, of Lindstrom, Minn.; and a niece, Shaan Gibson, of Maplewood, Minn.

A memorial mass will be held 12 p.m. Friday, April 16 at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church in Hayesville with Father Alex Ayala officiating. Inurnment will follow in the Memorial Garden.
