Jean “Babboo” H. Long, 80, peacefully passed away on Tuesday, March 2, 2021.

A lifelong native of Haywood County, N.C., she was the daughter of the late Joseph Samuel Hardin and the late Mary Ruth Stevens Hardin. Jean attended the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. She was a member of Beta Sigma Phi Sorority. Jean had been employed as a legal secretary for several attorneys in Haywood and Buncombe Counties. Mrs. Long was a member of Waynesville First Baptist Church. She was a talented artisan and craftsman and Jean’s last crafting project was making beautiful handmade greeting cards. Jean held a special concern for animals, especially cats and she was a strong advocate for the welfare and care of all animals. She loved her family deeply and Jean’s precious memory will be held forever in their hearts.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, Harold D. Long, who passed away in 2018.

Surviving are her children, Cammy Woodbery, of Waynesville, and Jody Long and his wife, Tracy, of Clyde; her grandchildren, Wesley Woodbery and wife Cindy, Lyndsey and Cody Long; and a great-grandson, Carter Woodbery.

A graveside funeral service to honor and celebrate the life of Mrs. Long was held at 2 p.m. Saturday, March 6 at Crawford/Ray Memorial Gardens in Clyde. The Rev. Dr. T. David Phillips officiated.
