Robbinsville proves to be a touch too much

Hayesville High School’s softball team took their home field Tuesday, April 6 to face the Lady Knights of Robbinsville. The visitors entered the match-up ranked 13th in the state according to MaxPreps. Although the Lady Jackets went toe-to-toe with the Lady Knights until the fifth inning. Robbinsville went on to win the game 13-2.

It looked like the Lady Knights would cake walk to victory early on as they plated 2 runs in the top of the first. However, strong defense and solid pitching kept the Hayesville in the mix. Lila Roberts made a nice catch in center field to stop a scoring threat and Addison Bunch worked the corners of the plate to keep Robbinsville batters guessing.

Unfortunately, the Lady Jackets just could never get anything going in the batters box. Hayesville was able to manufacture a run in the bottom of the fourth, making the score 3-1. In the top of the fifth, the Lady Knights put together a rally and added 6 runs to go up 9-1 on their way to 13-2 victory.

The loss dropped Hayesville’s record to 2-8 which puts them seventh in the Smoky Mountain Conference standings. The Lady Jackets will be at home Tuesday, April 20 for a 4:30 p.m. game against Swain County. At the time of writing, Swain sits fourth in the standings with a record of 4-2.
