Paul “PawPaw” Chastain, 84, of Cleveland, passed away on Sunday, June 27, 2021.

Mr. Chastain was born on Aug. 22, 1936 in Rainbow Springs, N.C. to the late Sherman and Louise Bedford Chastain. Paul was a veteran of the U.S. Army and a member of Center Grove Baptist Church. During his time in the Army, he wrestled. He was sure to tell you he never lost. After leaving the Army, Paul served as Chief of Police for the City of Locust Grove and Union City. He later left to pursue his passion in carpentry. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Hazel Lou Chastain; daughter, Kathy Lynn Driskell; six brothers and three sisters.

Survivors include his children, Paul Steven Chastain, of Greenville, Ga.; Marty Randall Chastain, of Stockbridge, Ga.; Jeffrey Anthony Chastain, of Cleveland, Ga.; Cynthia Annette Smoker, Gainesville, Ga.; and Amy Bowyer, of Loganville, Ga.; stepson and wife, Robert and Joanne Myers, of Hartwell, Ga.; stepdaughter and husband, Rhonda and David Hopkins, of Ellenwood, Ga.; sister and brother-in-law, Eula Mae and Cobb Young, of Lake Michigan; sister, Josephine Jones, of Cleveland, Ga.; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren also survive.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, July 1 at The Chapel of Barrett Funeral Home. The Rev. Alvin Jones will officiate. Interment will follow at Center Grove Baptist Church Cemetery with the Rev. Gary Heffner officiating.

The family received friends from 5-7 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
