The annual variety benefit concert which supports the Madelyn Lea Memorial Scholarship will be a virtual event this year. Available on the Hayesville First United Methodist Church Facebook page at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 22, the concert will be available for sharing.
Produced by friends of Madelyn Lea, esteemed voice and piano teacher who served as music director at both Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church and Ledford’s Chapel United Methodist Church, the memorial endeavor began in 2007 with the creation of a scholarship fund bearing her name. Annually, $1,000 goes to a Clay County high school music student. The 2020 recipient is Jordan Muzzy who is pursuing a degree in vocal performance from UNC Greensboro.
Members of the Madelyn Lea Chorus will offer a program of contemporary, patriotic and classical music in a highly entertaining program with performances by Missy Kirkland, Dawn Whiddon, Laura Stooksbury, Carol and Dave Nolan, piano student Byron Engleman and more. Talented musical director, Cody Killian will play classical piano duets with Jackie Reed and Emma Pullium. Cody completed his Master of Music in Piano Performance at Converse College’s Petri School of Music this spring and has created another spectacular program you won’t want to miss.
