The 14th annual Madelyn Lea Memorial Scholarship Concert will be held on Tuesday, Aug. 3 at 7 p.m. at the Hayesville First United Methodist Church.
Directed by the talented Cody Killian, who holds a Master of Music in Piano from Converse College's Petri School of Music, members of the Madelyn Lea Chorus will offer a program of contemporary, classical and sacred music in a highly entertaining program. Among the performers are, Missy Kirkland, Dawn Whiddon, Laura Stooksbury ,Carol Klohn, Cameron and Carli LeJuene, Hope Ledford, Jackie Reed and Young Harris College Assistant Professor, Dr. Patrick Young.
Friends of Madelyn Lea, esteemed voice and piano teacher who served as music director at both Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church (IHM} and Ledford’s Chapel United Methodist Church until her death in 2006, established the memorial endeavor in 2007 with the creation of a scholarship fund bearing her name. Annually, $1,000 goes to a Clay County High School music student. Congratulations to 2021 recipient, Reagan Bunch who will be attending UNC-W in the fall studying both political science and education and continuing to pursue her interest in music.
Tickets are $10 and are available at the following locations: IHM and St. William Catholic Churches after the weekend Masses, Tiger's Store in Hayesville, BodySense in Hiawassee and can be purchased at the door.
