Beef Field Day event set in Brasstown

On Friday, July 16, at 2 p.m., a Beef Field Day will be held at Bass Hyatt’s farm in Brasstown. The purpose of the event will be to educate area farmers on the Akaushi breed and the Akaushi/Angus cross.

Speakers will include Bass Hyatt, farm owner, Rep. Karl Gillespie, president of the North Carolina Cattlemen’s Association, Elizabeth Caskey with FPL Foods andClay County Extension Director and agriculture agent, Lisa Gonzalez. Participants will have the opportunity to see Akaushi cattle and learn about the breed. Participants will also learn about topics related to breeding, artificial insemination, rotational grazing, and opportunities to sell Akaushi and

 Akaushi/Angus cattle. Many local agencies will be on hand to provide information for local cattlemen related to pasture management, the Akaushi breed, marketing, and financial/technical support services for local cattlemen.
