After a several days of rain and wind last week, I am sure that most yards are now covered with leaves and debris. You and your family can enjoy that crisp autumn weather while avoiding some potential dangers that come with the season by remembering a few important fall safety tips.
Make sure that the roof and gutters are clean from leaves and pine needles. Any dead or overhanging limbs should be removed from your house. A garden hose makes a good water supply in case of a fire around your house.
One hundred feet of hose should be racked and connected in order to protect all sides of the house and roof. Along with the hose, a rake and shovel are always good tools to keep handy in case of an emergency. You will want to create a 30 foot fire break around your home.
In order to do this, brush, trees, ground coverings, and bushes need to be selectively thinned out and removed. If you are stacking firewood outside, it should be 30 feet away from the house and other buildings. You should never park your car or truck over a pile of leaves. The heat from the vehicle can ignite the leaves below.
