The Towns County Sheriff’s Office arrested a Baldwin, Ga. man Tuesday on multiple drug charges. As it turned out, he is also wanted by the FBI on previous charges including racketeering.

In Towns County, Kevin Cosper, 34, faces charges of possession of methamphetamine, possession of Fentanyl, possession of  THC oil, possession of marijuana and possession of drug related objects, according to the Towns County Sheriff’s Office. After further inquiries officers learned that Cosper was a fugitive from justice wanted by the FBI.

The fugitive warrant stems from an August 2019 investigation conducted by the GBI, FBI and Appalachian Drug Task Force.  At that time, Cosper was one of 48 people arrested and charged with racketeering, corruption and organized crime.

He has been on the run from federal agents and law enforcement since December 2021,  according to the sheriff’s office. Cosper was discovered hiding in the Towns County area where he was allegedly in the process of setting up a “dangerous drug operation.”

Regarding Tuesday’s arrest, Sheriff Ken Henderson said the Towns County Sheriff’s Office disrupted a drug operation that has prevented the sell of Fentanyl and methamphetamine laced with Fentanyl from being sold in our community.

“ Fentanyl one of the most dangerous and potent drugs on the market which was confiscated during this arrest could have potentially caused the overdose of over 500 people,” Henderson said.

The arrest was conducted as part of an ongoing investigation called “Operation Sting.”

The sheriff commended their drug investigative unit. “We must send a message that our county is not the place to deal drugs,” he said.

Cosper is being held without bond.
