Every October we look forward to a great time at the Punkin Chunkin Festival put on by the Clay County Chamber of Commerce. Regrettably, this year’s event had to be canceled due to the pandemic, but Punkin Chunkin will be back in 2021, Oct. 16-17.

Because we all could use some more fall fun in our life, the chamber is sponsoring a pumpkin decorating contest among local businesses. “More than 20 Clay County and Hayesville firms will have 100-plus pound pumpkins decorated in their fall finery on display, either at their locations or on the downtown square. We have many great creative folks in town, so walk, drive by or go online to check out the contestants,” said Pam Roman, director of the Chamber of Commerce.

Vote for your favorite at the Clay County Chamber of Commerce on the square in Hayesville or vote online on our chamber Facebook page; the chamber’s web page: www.claychambernc.com or www.punkinchunkinNC.com. Share your favorite picture or visit the pumpkins in person and take a pic with your favorite . There will be a People’s Choice award and a Judges’ Winner. Voting will be held from Saturday, Oct. 17 to Sunday, Nov. 1.

The chamber is also sponsoring a contest to name our Punkin Chunkin mascot, your favorite flying pumpkin. Submit your naming suggestions starting Saturday, Oct. 17 at the same place you vote for the best decorated pumpkin and we will announce the winning name for 2020 in November.
