The Firewood Ministry Lot at Hinton Rural Life Center is open for local residents who use wood as the primary source for heating their homes but are not able to afford it.
Beginning in October, Hinton’s firewood lot will be open 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Wednesdays. The lot is staffed by Hinton volunteers who can help load wood into cars and trucks. Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., wood is available for pick up in Hinton’s parking lot for those getting smaller loads of wood, have an emergency need for firewood, or cannot get wood from the firewood lot on Wednesdays.
Firewood recipients must first check in at Hinton’s Administrative Office and complete a required application before getting wood. Hinton’s firewood lot is located on Hinton Center Road across from the Clay County Food Pantry. Hinton Center is at 2330 Hinton Center Road.
The Firewood Ministry of Hinton Rural Life Center is vital for many in our rural community. The number of firewood loads distributed for the past few years has steadily increased, from 166 loads in 2017 to 274 loads in 2018 and then 372 loads in 2019. Donations of wood and funding for Hinton’s Firewood Ministry are always appreciated.
The volunteer team of “Woodchuckers” will pick up donated wood, cut or uncut, as long as it is on the ground. For questions regarding wood pick up, donating wood, volunteering, or making a donation, contact Hinton Rural Life Center at: info@hintoncenter.org or call (828) 389-8336.
