Judge Richard K. Walker set to enter retirement

On Thursday, Dec. 31, 2020 the Honorable Chief District Court Judge Richard K. Walker held District Criminal Court in Clay County for one last time. Judge Walker, a Clay County resident chose not to run for re-election in 2020 to begin a new chapter as he enters retirement. 

After graduating from Polk Central High School in North Carolina Judge Walker entered the United States Air Force. Following his service, he entered the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill where he graduated with his law degree in 1987. He entered private practice in 1987 and in 1991 joined the District Attorney’s Office as a prosecutor for the 30th Judicial District. He then rejoined private practice in 1991. In February 2007 Judge Walker a Clay County resident began his service as Judge for the 30th Judicial District. In 2014 Judge Walker was selected by the Chief Justice of the North Carolina Supreme Court to become the Chief District Court Judge for the seven counties of the 30th Judicial District. 

Judge Walker has served the 30th Judicial District for more than 13 Years as District Court Judge. He served this district with dignity, honor and is respected throughout the district. Many have shared comments about Judge Walker’s humility and his love and commitment to the law as demonstrated with his steadfastness in applying the law.

Judge Walker has been an asset to the 30th Judicial District and will be missed by all.
