A Hayesville man was arrested Tuesday, June 23 for vandalism to the new Clay County Primary School on Yellow Jacket Drive, as well other buildings around Clay County. 

Adam Truett Martin, 35, allegedly broke about 26 windows at the new school, along with windows at the Clay County Rec Park Gym, the former Tommy's Market, which is now The Market Apartments, and Cactus Game Designs.

According to a press release from the Clay County Sheriff's Office, a caller reported the school vandalism at approximately 6:56 a.m. on June 23. Deputies dispatched to the school found the broken windows and began searching for a suspect. While searching, they discovered a broken window at the rec center gym on Ball Park Drive. Soon after, they were dispatched to the former Tommy's Market on Tusquittee Road, where two more broken windows were found. They were also sent to investigate two broken windows at Cactus Games on Tusquittee Road.

After their investigation, the deputies arrested Martin at 9:21 a.m. Martin was charged with six  counts of misdemeanor injury to personal property and one count of felony injure building/fence/wall. He was given a $25,000 secured bond and a court date of Monday, Aug. 3.

Clay County Schools Superintendent Dale Cole said Tuesday afternoon, "The cost estimate for damage to the new school is in excess of $8,000, mostly due to broken windows."
