What do a veterinarian, school teacher, park ranger, marriage counselor, retired therapist, dog lover and store keeper all have in common? Like so many folks up here in the mountains, they have many hidden talents. Once in a while they surprise family and friends with what they’ve been working on. Now, a few of them will be sharing their work more widely, bringing their skills out for a night on stage at the Peacock Performing Arts Center, Saturday, January 29th at 7:00 p.m. as a variety show, Hayesville’s Got Talent.
“The evening will include singer-songwriters, poetry and prose writers, and storytellers who live in our local area,” explained program host, Kanute Rarey.
Performers include storytellers Julie Garner, Gayle Cox, and Alex Peers; poet and author Mary Ricketson; multi-faceted writers Sandy Benson and Dwain Zagrocki; old-time, traditional music husband-wife duo, Squirrel Butter, with Charmaine Slavic and Charlie Beck; fan favorite singer-songwriter Rob Tiger; and new singer-songwriter, Owen Gibson.
The Peacock is working with a group of area writers and storytellers to bring this local talent to the main stage with the 2022 series, Scribes on Stage. The series producers are putting together an assortment of programs starting with this January program, Hayesville’s Got Talent! Other series programs are: An Evening of One-Act Plays in April, Appalachian Tales in July, and Writers Speak Up in September.
Scribes on Stage 2022 captures the magic of the mountains and the talents of local performers, reinforcing the Peacock Performing Arts Center as a regional hub of community and cultural activity and providing entertainment for Western North Carolina and North Georgia residents. It is a great series, full of surprises.
The theater is located at 301 Church Street, Hayesville, NC. Tickets are available at the box office. For information: officemgr@thepeacocknc.org or 828-389-2787. The Peacock is a non-profit community theater and an Equal Opportunity Employer and Provider.
