Only a few days remain to vote early at the Clay County Elections Board. One stop is open 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. the rest of the week and the final day of early voting will be 8 am. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 29 at theBOE office in Hayesville.

With only Monday to rest, election workers will be gearing up for Super Tuesday when voters head to the polls to cast their ballots at one of the county’s nine precincts — lo- cations are printed on our sample ballot page on B8.

In this year’s primary, offices up for election range from the presidential to the U.S. House and Senate to State Senate to the local level of county commission and school board.

Candidates running for county commission in the primary are all on the Republican ballot. Voters may choose three. They are incumbents Clay Logan, Randy Nichols, Rob Peck along with contenders James Watkins, Ron L. Coward, John “Steve” Hindsman, Broadus Ledford and Daniel Sherlin. Constitution Party candidate Robert Tison will be on the November general election ballot.

Seeking election to the school board are GOP incumbents Reba Beck and Danny Jones along with Darryl K. McClure. Voters may choose two candidates. Unaffiliated voters may choose either the Democratic Party or Republican Party ballot, but not both. On the local level, this year’s primary will determine the majority of seats for our county commission and school board because there are no other party’s competing for office except for Tison.
