Small Town partnerships at work

The monthly Small Town Main Street/Historic Hayesville Inc. gathering was held on Tuesday, Oct. 22 featuring historical projects and upcoming Small Business Saturday on Nov. 30. The meeting focused on preserving some of our past and promoting opportunities for businesses to participate in the national Shop Local event as part of the STMS economic revitalization plan.

In addition to the check presentation for the Old Jail Museum, STMS/HHI volunteers and board of directors thanked the Clay County Historical & Arts Council members for providing space below the museum for relocation of the Old Town Hall which has been donated to HHI for rehabilitation. Site work is underway and the building should be moved before winter for work to begin.

The 15 ft. x 25 ft. long building is a small piece of history dating back to the 1940s.

Announcements for advertising Small Business Saturday for local businesses included newspaper and web site promotions to be sponsored by HHI and partner organizations.

Clay County Communities Revitalization Association will provide Black Friday shopping opportunities with vendors upstairs in Beal Center on Nov. 29. The Clay County Chamber of Commerce will work with their members to promote sales at their location and the HHI Centennial Exhibit, also located on Sanderson Street, will be open for picking up promotional items and chances to win prizes. The Songwriters Circle evening concert sponsored by HHI at Beal Center in partnership with CCCRA is scheduled to finish off a Small Business Saturday of events.

HHI, CCHAC and CCCRA are all 501c3 non profit organizations that partner in various ways to revitalize our town, feature local historical locations, culture, the arts, recreation areas and promote assets of Clay County. We live in a small town but active partnerships and volunteers share common goals in a big way.
