A 39-year-old Hayesville woman was arrested last week in Tennessee on a felony child abduction charge that originated in Clay County.

Rebecca Michelle Jones was taken into custody about a 135 miles from Hayesville by the Clinton Police Department.

Accompanying her was a teenage male who had been reported as abducted on July 20, confirmed Clay County Investigator Todd Wingate.

The young man faces no charges.

Jones was married to Carl Mikulan’s  stepson. Mikulan had been found May 26 lying in a field in the Shooting Creek community. He had a single gunshot wound to the head.

Mikulan was transported to a hospital in Tennessee where he died on May 29.

The juvenile accompanying Jones had been in the care of Mikulan and his wife, Wingate said.

The investigation remains open in Mikulan’s death. Wingate said there has been no determination as to whether the incidents are related.
