Third resident dies from COVID

A third Clay County resident has died from COVID-19 related complications, according to a release from the Clay County Health Department’s Facebook page. The death was reported Tuesday, Sept. 15. The report said the person was hospitalized and in the late 70s with “several preexisting” health conditions. The person was a contact to a previously positive case. No further details were provided.

“Although this is an unfortunate circumstance, the Clay County Health Department would like to remind you of simple, yet important, preventative measures that help slow the spread of the Coronavirus. These measures include actions like washing your hands, practicing social distancing and wearing a mask,” the health department posted.

The health department emphasized that if you feel that you have been exposed to COVID-19 or are exhibiting signs and symptoms of the virus to call them at 389-8052 to ensure proper testing protocol is initiated. Clay County experienced its first COVID-related death on Aug. 10 when a person in his mid 60s died while in the hospital. A second COVID-related fatality was reported in late August when a person in her late 80s died while hospitalized.
