A Hayesville man facing multiple charges involving alleged felony child-related sex offenses was arrested Sept. 18.
Jonathan Daniel Whitlow, 36, was initially charged with four counts of felony secret peeping involving child victims, according to a release from Clay County Sheriff Mark Buchanan.
Additional allegations were brought against Whitlow on Sept. 22 when he was charged with 10 felony counts of statutory sexual offense with a child; two felony counts of indecent liberties with a child; and three more felony counts of secret peeping.
Whitlow remains incarcerated in the Clay County Detention Center under a $2,250,000 secured bond stemming from the combined charges — $250,000 for the counts of secret peeping and $2 million regarding the sexual offense charges.
The alleged crimes are reported to have occurred between 2018 and 2025 and involved separate children between the ages of 10 and 14. According to one of the arrest warrants, it says as early as 4 to 7 years old.
As with most child sexual abuse investigations, Buchanan said the Clay County Sheriff’s Office closely partnered during this investigation with the HAVEN Child Advocacy Center in Peachtree.
“It should be noted that a single count of statutory sexual offense with a child has a maximum punishment of life without parole,” Buchanan said in the release.
Whitlow’s next court date is scheduled for Oct. 20.
